i am 21 and i live in houston texas. i just finished a handgun training program in which i will receive a concealed semiautomatic handgun license or permit. i dont know much about gun laws and dont know the difference between license and permit in terms of guns, i do know the difference for driving. i need for someone to explain to me the difference between handgun license and handgun permit. i also need to know the difference between (license or permit) of concealed handgun to (license or permit) to carry a concealed handgun. i thought that concealed license or permit and carry a concealed handgun license or permit is the same thing?i also need to know if i can carry my loaded pistol around tucked into my pants along with my gun I.D.? if i get pulled over by a cop for a traffic violation and the loaded gun is tucked in my pants and i have the gun I.D.,where does the loaded gun have to be in the vehicle at all times?also, can i carry my pistol to places like movie theaters or the mall?

if you dont know much about gun laws then you shouldnt have a gun.
You need to read the laws for the State of Texas and go back to your CHL instructor and tell him you need more info.
http://www.packing.org is another good site
In TN if you get your permit you can carry your gun on you loaded any time and it does not have to be concealed. You can have your gun loaded and on you just about anywhere exept in bars, courthouses, and stores that prohibit it. YOu should put your hands on your steering wheel and tell the police immediately that you have a gun on you and a license to carry it when stopped. That is about it, but a concealed permit I dont know about. Also my permit from TN is good in Texas-Kentucky-Arizona and several other states. You should have learned this in your gun course.
for someone who just went through a gun safety class.. you sure are ignorant about gun laws
They can be the same, in general. Depending on your state.
In some areas there are premits to buy a pistol and a licence to carry.
you can look up your state laws at

Also if you have finished the training program required for your carry permit, and they did not teach you this, they did a very bad job of teaching you
They are the same thing, just different nomenclature. The official state approved name is a concealed handgun license. It’s the only mechanism in place in Texas for a civilian to routinely carry a concealed weapon. The important thing for you to remember is that the gun has to be carried securely on your person, and has to be concealed if you are in public. If you leave it in your vehicle it has to be concealed and secured also. If pulled over, tell the officer 1st thing that you are a CHL carrier and thet you are armed. He will probably secure your weapon while he is with you, then give it back to you when done. That goes for ANY time you are with a cop. TELL US. Don’t let us find out later that you are carrying and did not say so.
You can carry the weapon any place that it’s not prohibited by law (schools, hospitals, bars etc….) You can even carry one into a restaraunt where alcohol is served, (not a bar or any business where 51% of the business is alcohol sold for consumption on site), unless there is a separate sign specifically prohibiting guns on the premises. If you do, you cannot drink, and honestly it would be better to leave it secured in the vehicle. The signs posted quoting the federal law that prohibits firearms where alcohol is sold or consumed is presumed to not apply to anyone who has a legal right to possess a firearm, which would include a CHL holder. The Texas Attorney General issued an opinion a couple of years ago addressing that very issue. If you do carry a gun into someplace where they prohibit one, and the owner asks you to remove the gun or to leave, and you do not comply, then you are guilty of a trespass and not a gun violation.
I was wondering the difference between the background check to get a hand gun and to get a carrys permit. Is it the same type of background check or do they go into depth when it comes to carrys instead of just wanting to purchase a hand gun?? Not sure about the difference was wondering if someone had an answer
