I’ve been thinking about getting a FFL to save and maybe make a little money. I’m wanting to be able to buy firearms & ammo at a dealer price for resale. I also want to be able to do transfers. Can someone tell me what kind of license I need.

They are all correct, you must have a business and regular hours for the ATF or you won’t get a lic. They have to come inspect the place and your town may not allow your zoning to place a gunshop there,ie schools church which could cause a felony for the weapons to be there. Its not worth it to try to be a wholesaler.Theres always a curio and relic lic for older weapons but not for resale.Unless your going into the gun business full time I’d forget it and Everything must be logged in and out and when you quit the business you must send the log to the ATF to cover your butt. The answer is FFL type 1
I ran a business from my home a number of years ago. This was gunsmithing but still had to have FFL since weapons coming into my home had to be recorded in a bound book.
If you just want to buy wholesale, this way isn’t worth the hassle. You also have to jump through a bunch of local and States hoops and report income etc. You may even have to prove you have parking off street available for the public.
AFT was cracking down on this and I think they raised the license fee. Used to be like 15.00 but heard they really wanted to crank up the price to about 500.00.
I just look for good deals. It’s alot easier and no hassles.
You need a FFL Dealer license. Also need a letter from your city stating that you can run a business from your home (assuming that is your location), must keep steady business hours so the ATF can come in and do inspections, must get a state sales tax license, have extra insurance, sufficient parking, etc, etc.
Unless you really want to do this as a business, I would not suggest you do it. Lots of paper work, inspections, etc.
