im new to pistols
i know in alotta other states its 2 differnt ones but i think in ny its the same license just making sure

There are different pistol permit limitations in NYS. Many county’s are different. If your in the city your up s**t creek. When I applied I could choose either carry conceal, sportsman and then there were other limitations like for work only or home only(I think there were a few more). Even though it is a state permit the county’s are the ones issuing them (some are better than others) and every county’s paper work is different. When you apply for a carry conceal you will need to fill out what is called a "proper cause" form. Basically "Why do you need personal protection 24/7?". If you can honestly fill out the proper cause form as to convince a judge than good job. Otherwise they will either down grade it to a sportsman or lower, or just plan disapprove it. My father and i applied at the same time and because i was able to do a better job with my proper cause form i got CC and he only got sportsman ( it is also nice when you send military certificates showing training for weapons safety and range safety, even awards showing responsibility). Your best bet for answers to permit questions is contact the issuing authority for your county and ask. They only have a job if people are getting permits (I found Onondaga County’s pistol permit unit to be very helpful). My suggestion is to always apply for CC and let them down grade it. You may get lucky and get a CC.
You’ll probably have to get a carry permit. Good luck with that in the Vampire State.
