I am filling out the forms for a New York State Pistol License. One of the questions basically asks for the purpose of me getting the license. The options are "Concealed Carry", "On-Location", and "Workplace". I will be getting it for home/self defense, kept mostly in my house, however, what about transportation? Should I check concealed carry? If so, are there any further requirements to be granted a concealed carry license in New York? If I should just choose the "on location" one, what are the laws/rules regarding transporting a handgun (i.e. in a car to/from range, gunsmith, etc.)? Thanks for well-informed answers in advance.
Personal experience anyone? In New York State? (Not NYC)
Well put Robert M.
Jed, that’s what I was thinking. If it’s no extra requirements or anything, then there’s no real reason not to check it.
Barb B.: Rockland County. And I’ll check that out, thanks for the post.

I checked concealed carry. This was in the 80s, but I don’t think anything’s been changed in regards to this.
Chances are, you won’t be carrying it around anyway.
I do recommend a good lock for the trigger.
I know it is very hard and a long wait for a pistol permit in NY.
That is why i have several rifles. I would love to get a pistol but will wait until I move out of NY, and that will be very soon.
Good luck.
And as I look at, it if someone walks into my house they will be carried out.
What county are you in? Looks like different counties have some different regs.
The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association might be a help as they follow gun laws.
