Also did they hire you to be an armed security guard or an unarmed security guard. If no one has mentioned to you that you are supposed to be armed then consider yourself an unarmed security guard. Be tactful and discreetly ask other guards if they carry personal weapons. Just be careful as someone may tell on you for asking I bet even if the company prohibits it that some might still carry concealed.

Keep in mind like what the previous posters said that if you are caught onsite with a weapon you could be fired. I completely understand what you are saying because I for one would not be an unarmed security guard.

Heck even if I worked in a convenience store I would be armed.

If you do happen to have a concealed carry license then do what you need to do to protect yourself. Carry concealed because in my opinion its better to have and not need then to need and not have. I would rather be jobless but alive then potentially dead or otherwise hurt so that I cannot work.

Security Guards are not afforded the same lenience, tolerance or forgiveness afforded to Police Officers.

Security Guards are paid to follow procedures and policies provided by their employer and the contracting client (if any).

Are you supposed to confront a group of 5-6 people or are you supposed to call 911 and provide the Police (and your employer) with a report of all the facts you can safely obtain?

I worked as a security officer (armed) for several years and then as a police officer in Washington state and MOST of the security companies here will NOT allow their employees to be armed while on the job unless the specific contract job that they are assigned to requires it.

When a security company does use armed guards, it specifically states which handguns and calibers are allowed to be carried (and they are more often than not provided by the security company…for legal reasons).

It is a insurance liability issue with all security companies.

If you are found to be carrying a firearm on the job and not authorized to do so by your company, (and particularly if the business that the security company has contracted with specifically prohibits it) then I can 100% guarantee that you will instantly lose your job.

It is best to consult your manager about the company policies regarding the carrying of firearms while on the job.

The link that you have referred to and the training you must go through is only to CERTIFY that you have received firearm safety training from the academy and that you have proven competent to carry a firearm on the job. It does NOT allow you to carry one on the job at your own discretion. You will in fact be terminated from your job if your COMPANY does not authorize you to carry a firearm while working.

Having a CCW does not allow you to open carry a duty gun

They are two different licenses or permits no matter where you are

Concealed means concealed and in Florida at least, if the site is not on the list if prohibited places all they can do if they find out is fire you or ask you to leave and it is much easier to find a new job than to plug a bullet hole with your finger till help gets there

Part of concealed is STFU and don’t ask or tell your employer about what you have hidden on you

I carried for 25 years in an industry that specifically prohibited it
Never got caught but was very glad I had it several times
Even had to make a police report once that never got back to the company
