I know this isn’t about hunting, but I figured many of the individuals who post here may be familiar with firearms laws.
Does an individual need an armed guards license to carry his personal pistol with him while working for a security company? Or does he just need a concealed pistol license? Does he need one or the other, or both? Or does it depend on the company?
Note: I live in the state of Washington, and this question pertains to this state.
Why do I want to carry a gun?
Because I am the only individual working the site in a high crime area. I would feel much safer if I were armed VS being unarmed. Especially when confronting a group of 5-6 people.
I think anyone in their right mind would agree with me.
Mark, you are incorrect.

Mountain Man-
There is no client at my job. My job is on site at my job. It is it’s own security company. It doesn’t work for anybody else.

It all depends on your company policy.Even if you have a concealed weapons license if your company policy is no guns on site you will be fired if caught armed on the job.
Also did they hire you to be an armed security guard or an unarmed security guard. If no one has mentioned to you that you are supposed to be armed then consider yourself an unarmed security guard. Be tactful and discreetly ask other guards if they carry personal weapons. Just be careful as someone may tell on you for asking I bet even if the company prohibits it that some might still carry concealed.
Keep in mind like what the previous posters said that if you are caught onsite with a weapon you could be fired. I completely understand what you are saying because I for one would not be an unarmed security guard.
Heck even if I worked in a convenience store I would be armed.
If you do happen to have a concealed carry license then do what you need to do to protect yourself. Carry concealed because in my opinion its better to have and not need then to need and not have. I would rather be jobless but alive then potentially dead or otherwise hurt so that I cannot work.
Security Guards are not Police Officers.
Security Guards are not afforded the same lenience, tolerance or forgiveness afforded to Police Officers.
Security Guards are paid to follow procedures and policies provided by their employer and the contracting client (if any).
Are you supposed to confront a group of 5-6 people or are you supposed to call 911 and provide the Police (and your employer) with a report of all the facts you can safely obtain?
If you’re unclear about what your employer expects of you, I suggest requesting clarification(s) from your supervisor.
Good luck and best wishes for you and yours to have many safe days at work.
There is no "armed guard license" in this state (WA).
I worked as a security officer (armed) for several years and then as a police officer in Washington state and MOST of the security companies here will NOT allow their employees to be armed while on the job unless the specific contract job that they are assigned to requires it.
When a security company does use armed guards, it specifically states which handguns and calibers are allowed to be carried (and they are more often than not provided by the security company…for legal reasons).
It is a insurance liability issue with all security companies.
If you are found to be carrying a firearm on the job and not authorized to do so by your company, (and particularly if the business that the security company has contracted with specifically prohibits it) then I can 100% guarantee that you will instantly lose your job.
It is best to consult your manager about the company policies regarding the carrying of firearms while on the job.
I worked for both CPP Security and Northwest Security as an armed guard and as a field supervisor for both companies.

Response: No, I am not incorrect. The link that you have referred to and the training you must go through is only to CERTIFY that you have received firearm safety training from the academy and that you have proven competent to carry a firearm on the job. It does NOT allow you to carry one on the job at your own discretion. You will in fact be terminated from your job if your COMPANY does not authorize you to carry a firearm while working.
Once the company does the background check thats it, you can carry at work. Non-work related is different depending on Washington’s laws.
I personally dont know, but my husband carries a weapon and one of his favorite sites it called opencarry.org. It is a forum and you can post and ask questions for every state. hope that helps!
why do u want to carry a gun? anyway visit http://www.opencarry.org and get more info on yur question
In Washington state, First , it must be an (armed) site. The client pays more money and the rate for the guard is higher.Insurance reasons.Second, you must be employed as an armed officer, with your company. That means you fit their criterion for what they ‘re looking for physically and mentally, you’ve passed the state test and qualified with your fire arm. Then you are issued an armed license and you can only carry on an armed site and you’re the designated armed officer. You also according to your company ,might be required to have a concealed carry permit as well. But having a CWP does not give you the right to carry at work and could result inthe loss o f your license , companys loss of the client and possible fine. Short answer
Having an armed guard license does not allow you to carry your personal concealed weapon
Having a CCW does not allow you to open carry a duty gun
They are two different licenses or permits no matter where you are
However
Concealed means concealed and in Florida at least, if the site is not on the list if prohibited places all they can do if they find out is fire you or ask you to leave and it is much easier to find a new job than to plug a bullet hole with your finger till help gets there
Part of concealed is STFU and don’t ask or tell your employer about what you have hidden on you
I carried for 25 years in an industry that specifically prohibited it
Never got caught but was very glad I had it several times
Even had to make a police report once that never got back to the company
