I’m thinking of going to university in Rochester at RIT. I’ve been reading up on Rochester and up-state New York and it looks to me to be pretty unsafe. I’ve heard that it’s the murder capital of New York and also that it’s the 30th most dangerous city in the US. Mostly, I intend to stay in or around campus anyway, but I’d still like to know. I’m disabled, so not much that I can do for self defense. I have a concealed firearms license for GA, but New York state gun laws are much more strict.

I am filling out the forms for a New York State Pistol License. One of the questions basically asks for the purpose of me getting the license. The options are "Concealed Carry", "On-Location", and "Workplace". I will be getting it for home/self defense, kept mostly in my house, however, what about transportation? Should I check concealed carry? If so, are there any further requirements to be granted a concealed carry license in New York? If I should just choose the "on location" one, what are the laws/rules regarding transporting a handgun (i.e. in a car to/from range, gunsmith, etc.)? Thanks for well-informed answers in advance.
Personal experience anyone? In New York State? (Not NYC)
Well put Robert M.
Jed, that’s what I was thinking. If it’s no extra requirements or anything, then there’s no real reason not to check it.
Barb B.: Rockland County. And I’ll check that out, thanks for the post.

Please only answer if know. I live in Georgia and may be getting transfered to New Jersey. I have a firearms license(concealed carry permit) and own alot of guns. I know my firearms permit is no good in Jersey but what is a good way to go about moving with them? I own 15 guns and no I’m am not. And yes I am a law abiding citizen. I also have a 600lb safe I keep them in.
What I know…
I’m sure all my 15 round mags for the pistols are out, I’m sure my AK is out, I have read that hollow point bullets are out. Damn I hope I can stay in a red state.
"extraordinary circumstances"…
If I say it is my constitutional right, will that work. lol
Self defense is not a good enough reason?

I want to apply for a license to carry an open or concealed (preferably concealed) firearm an the near future for self defense. I currently am in Carbon County PA and will be moving to Beaver County PA in a few months. would I need to transfer the permit because of the county of residence change? First of all, how do I obtain the application? who do i turn it in to? and what are the requirements to be approved for the application?
