FFL license, notification to chief law enforcement.?

Tuesday, 8. June 2010

Part of getting a FFL is this….

the applicant has sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that the applicant intends to apply for a license.

— In my case this would be the County Sheriff. Should I just send a copy of the completed ATF application by certified mail; "attention: (my sheriff’s name here)"

I would think that would cover the bases….. but what proof would I have that it was done, if there are problems later?

Firearm private sales question.?

Sunday, 9. May 2010

Okay, My brother is looking to buy a firearm from an KY resident, but he (my brother) resides in Ohio. What does he need to do for a private sale? Does he just walk into an FFL and ask them to do a transfer? If so, does he need to be in KY to do so or can he take it to an FFL in Ohio? If he goes to Kentucky, does he need any sort of proof that he is an Ohio resident?

I’ve bought all my firearms at gun shows from dealers, so I am totally lost on this one.
I wanted to note that this he is buying a long arm…(rifle) not a handgun.
