I am interested in obtaining an FFL to become a dealer of rifles, shotguns, and handguns to supplament my income and as a hobby more or less. I have already ordered ATF Form 7 and fingerprint cards.

Questions:
What other forms should I order?
How much does liability insurance cost for such a business?
How should I structure my business (sole proprietorship, LLC, etc?
Any other tips or suggestions?

Thank You!

I live in Northwest Indiana, and I would like to purchase a handgun(for example standard 9mm). Do I need a license? Or is that only for buying rifles…

(NOTE: I dont want the gun to kill anyone, I just like guns, and plan on starting to collect them. and that dosent mean i like pulling the trigger)
I did read it, and it said something differnt between Rifles and handguns

For example, what is your view on issuing permits for people to carry weapons such as handguns, open or concealed?

The 2nd amendment does not say we need a license to exercise this right. That’s my view on it. The states of Vermont and Alaska agree with me.

Here in Wisconsin, we are allowed to openly carry a firearm without a permit, but a law-abiding citizen in this state cannot even get a permit to carry concealed.

Do you support weapons permits? If so, do you support "shall-issue" where if someone goes and jumps through the hoops, has a clean record – the state MUST issue them a permit? Do you support "may issue" where someone has to go in front of a judge and prove why they need a permit? Do you support NOT issuing permits at all and instead letting people carry firearms without having to go get permission?

Are you against firearms ownership all together?

Please answer truthfully. I won’t judge. I would also appreciate it if you gave a reason why you feel the way you do. Thanks.
Please give reasoning as to why you have the opinion you do.
"keeping and bearing arms" is a RIGHT. driving is a privilege. That’s the difference driving guy.
ugotthat: we aren’t all Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris that can take on 5 thugs at the same time. And what are you supposed to do if one of those thugs pulls a gun or a knife on you? What if they are also trained in martial arts? a bullet is faster and deadlier than a fist.

students and faculty to carry firearms? If people have a concealed handgun carry license, and were allowed to carry their handguns on campus, would this have saved more lives?

"Under the “Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act” (HR-218) qualified active and retired law enforcement officers are permitted to carry concealed handguns nationwide. The law amends the Gun Control Act (18 U.S.C. Chapter 44) to exempt qualified active and retired law enforcement officers from state and local laws prohibiting the carry of concealed firearms."

Plain and simple, why doesn’t this apply to military veterans? I’m a veteran of the US Army, and a military police officer for that matter. However, I live in Illinois, one of then most unfriendly states to law-abiding gun owners in the entire union.

I’m just not sure why someone would believe that a former military officer, trained in some of the most advanced tactics in the world, wouldn’t make a great civilian ally to any LEO who happens to find themselves in trouble. I’m not saying it happens very often, but wouldn’t you feel a bit safer knowing that a veteran with a gun was sitting next to you on the CTA? Especially in Chicago, which has a ban on handguns all together.

Obama keeps talking about a civilian defense force, let’s start with qualified veterans being given Federal Concealed Carry Licenses, just like retired LEOs.

okay so one of my relatives died recently and we were emptying out their appartment in the John Hancock building in chicago illinois and we found a 1950′s era colt handgun. it is in excellent condition and has only been shot about 100 times. we want to bring it back to us in st louis and add it to our arsenal but it is an un registered handgun, so if we were to bring it back to out house in st louis and say we got pulled over for speeding or somthing, could we face charges for having and un registerd hand gun? could we mail it back to st louis? what is the most efficent legal way to transport it back. and yes we do ahve concealed weapon permits/license (i forget what its called) but its not registered to us so please help! thanks

p.s. sorry for bad grammer/spelling, i typed this as fast as possible in antacipating a better answers befor i leave tomarrow.
just so you guys know chicago is very strick on gun laws. around here i drive around with rifle and handguns in a case with lots of ammo. my friend got fined for driving with a handgun and no ammo, but that was because he forgot to lock it in his trunk. but still, it’s stricter
also all you guys are saying something about not having to register the guns, all of my guns had to be registered, but that might be because i am under 21. idk

C) Male 43, living with wife and children (ages 11 and 6) in urban area, familiar with firearms, has a concealed pistol license. Current carry gun Glock 19.

Please pair up the guns with the players and give your reasons for the pairings. Thanks much!

I am presently located in the State of Ohio. Ohio affords more freedom than my previous state of New Jersey in Firearms laws. I visited a Pawn shop in Ohio, and they have handguns in a display case, and shotguns and rifles (about 3 of each) on the wall (matter of fact, someone was selling a .380 to the guys at the counter when I walked in.) I asked the shop the rules of a Gun purchase, and they advised me that I must:

1) Update my identification to the state of Ohio, as Federal law requires that firearms transfers be done between individuals of the same state, in the same state; and

2) That I would have my info entered into the Instant Check computer for the Approve, Deny, or Delay response. (I imagine this applied to the handguns -and- long guns, but that is one of my questions.)

I have previously posted, because I have a challenging legal matter that basically boils down to the Federal laws of firearms vs. the State laws of firearms, especially since Ohio goes by the Federal Instant Check, not a State one. This is what I am describing:

In NJ on May of 2006, Deposed in October of 2007, I was convicted of New Jersey 2C:39-5, which is Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. NJ went to -town- to paint me as a Felon! The charge was NOT downgraded, and the word Weapon was used. (This is important; it was not a Weapon, I will explain in the next paragraph.) I was placed on 2 yars probation, since I had no record to warrant Prison. My probation is done. It was State probation, and NJ took my DNA. They really made me feel like I killed someone, and really gave it their best effort to ensure I had a ‘record.’ The problem is with their law… (continue to next paragraph, this is what I mean:)

In NJ, a BB Gun or Pellet gun is -legally,0 under NJ law, to be a ‘Weapon.’ They do not use the word Firearm; it is ‘weapon,’ so it can mean anything they want it to mean. After I was robbed outside of my vehicle the night in May 2006, I called the authorities. They came to where I was, since I had a black eye and no keys, wallet, or phone. The Police searched my vehicle, and found a BB Gun. They interrupted my Statement to the police, arrested me, towed my vehicle, arrested me on an outstanding traffic warrant, and I was free 2 days later because the warrant was taken care of, just not out of their computer. (Ever had a judge say to you ‘Why are you here?’ when he looks at paperwork, and the Police brought you in? I have.) I went -back- to the Detectives to finish my statement, and explain the BB Gun that was found in my vehicle. (NJ law made it impossible for me to come up with an acceptable explanation, so I explained it was to scare off a would-be attacker with a real weapon as I sped off, if I was robbed in the city. It was the truth, but it did not ‘work.’) I was again free.

3 months and 1 week later, I was pulled over for a traffic warrant and had a no-bail Felony Warrant for Possession of a Weapon. I was flabbebrgasted. I could not make this up if I tried. (Thank you for staying with me in my dilemma.) I really question whether or not the Federal Instant Check will issue a Deny because of this. I would -expect- it to issue a Delay response, because BB Guns are NOT Firearms, and although NJ uses the word ‘projectile’ to not differentiate between an item that would either make a squirrel jump or kill a 400-pound man, Federal law does not recognize BB Guns as firearms.

Because of this GLARING discrepancy between NJ and OH and Federal law (OH being in line with Federal, NJ being the United States of NJ,) My questions are:

1) What happens if the Federal Instant Check turns up a "Delay" response?

2) Will it turn up a "Delay" response when it sees my information?

I am asking because if it turns up ‘Delay,’ I would like to participate in te process to prove it is not a disqualifying thing to own at least even a Long gun under the laws of Ohio and Federal. I also wonder:

3) If it turned up ‘Deny,’ do I have the right to appeal for a review of that based on the facts of the ‘conviction’ I outlined?

4) Is Ohio a ‘Brady’ State?

5) Does the Instant Check decision apply to Long Guns only, or both Long Guns and Handguns? — I have also heard I can own a Long Gun with my Fake Felony.

Thank you for answering this, it means a lot to me. Sincerely, – Joseph

In order to buy a firearm legally in California you must first successfully complete a firearms safety course, go through an extensive background check, find a licensed firearm dealer and wait out what I believe is a two week waiting period for handguns. But anybody over the age of 18 can walk into just about any major sporting goods chains store a purchase ammunition on the spot. It seems to me that if firearms have serial numbers, then bullets and casings should have some identifying markings as well. Imagine if bullets and shell casings had some some identifying serial numbers laser etched into them. To be able to tie a bullet, to at lot number, to a piont of sale, to a bar code, to a drive’s license and maybe to a murder. Something etched on the inside of thr casing and the "tail" end of the bullet itself. True crimminals obtain firearms illegally as a matter of course, but dare I say very few of them load their own amunition. Bullets that could be trace back to the purchaser.
