Personally I’m a socialist and hate both liberal & conservative politicians.

But even I can see that they’re a mixed bag on this issue.

When he was governor of California, conservative icon Ronald Reagan signed the law forbidding open carry of firearms by civilians in urban areas.

However, even under today’s Democratic-majority legislature & centrist Republican governor, it is legal for civilians to open carry in California unincorporated areas where the local county has no laws forbidding it, including to and from your campsite when wilderness camping.

In Florida, which unlike California has an okay arrangement to license CONCEALED carry, ALL open carry is forbidden unless you are on private property, actually in the process of practicing on a legal range, or in the process of hunting, fishing or camping.
Vermont, with former governors like Howard Dean, full health insurance and a liberal reputation, requires no license whatsoever for concealed carry -If you can own it legally, you can carry it concealed, whether you are a resident or not. Few restrictions on open carry exist, and the right to BEAR arms is specified in both the state constitution and in statute in no uncertain terms.

The best concealed carry law in the U.S., Alaska’s, was written by a liberal state legislator. While, like in Vermont, a license is not required, Alaska WILL issue you one in case you travel, so that you can exercise the right in states that have reciprocal arrangements with Alaska.

So with all of these MIXED aspects of liberals vs. conservatives on gun laws, why is there an automatic assumption in the firearms community that liberals and Democrats are worse on our firearms rights than conservatives and Republicans?
You’re wrong Giant. I LIVE in Florida, HAVE a concealed carry permit, but if you check this website –

http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html

it is illegal to carry a gun in your car without a concealed carry permit UNLESS it is snapped into a holster, or is in a bag or something, or in the glove compartment.

And this website -

http://opencarry.org/fl.html

tells you about the extensive restrictions on Florida open carry.

Check your facts!
Seriously, dude, if you’re driving around in Florida with a gun out on the seat in plain sight, you can be arrested.

Check the frequently-asked questions under the list of states in the first link I just posted. That’s a state government website – I didn’t make it up.
And Nonya, I’ve bought stuff from AIM. They’re not bad, although a little higher priced than many other dealers.
FilmRedneck, so far, is the only one to give a thoughtful answer.
OOOPS I’m wrong, Whip too

Can anybody provide me with a list of "hunting rifles" that accept detachable "high capacity" (whatever that means) magazines? I’m looking specifically for rifles that were not included in the ’94 AWB. Please include caliber.

I’d like this information for when I argue with the anti’s. When they say "a madman can get an assault weapon with a 30 round magazine" I’d like to reply "well, the <…> rifle is also a semi-automatic that fires a similar round and has a detachable magazine…"

Usually I argue that a gunman with a .30-30 lever-action going up against an unarmed population would have no trouble performing tactical reloads and doing just as much damage as if he had an AK.

Thanks for your help!
gunplumb:
What I’m trying to do is point out the dishonesty of the anti’s when they claim they don’t want to take away the guns we use for “hunting or sporting purposes”. It makes no sense to ban rifle A because of certain cosmetic features, yet allow rifle B because it is considered a “hunting rifle”. The anti’s know this, but they know the only way to get rid of BOTH is to start with the “scarier” looking one first.

BAFTE, the GCA, the Brady Check (Unconstitutional due to presumption of guilt), “gun-free” zones, permits to carry, various licensing and registration schemes, and 20,000+ gun laws on the book. All barriers to exercising our R2KBA. If that is not a rationing of rights, I’m afraid of what is.

acme,
You’re right, I’m not going to win any arguments with Diane Feinstein. But we need as many people on our side as possible. That means convincing people that know nothing of firearms that can be easily swayed by the anti’s.

I want to buy a bolt action rifle from a private party.

1. I live in California

2. I am 21

3. The CA gun laws state that
"All firearms sales, transfers or loans, including private transactions and sales at gun shows, must go through a California licensed firearms dealer."
What does this mean exactly ?

Thanks a lot.

okay so one of my relatives died recently and we were emptying out their appartment in the John Hancock building in chicago illinois and we found a 1950′s era colt handgun. it is in excellent condition and has only been shot about 100 times. we want to bring it back to us in st louis and add it to our arsenal but it is an un registered handgun, so if we were to bring it back to out house in st louis and say we got pulled over for speeding or somthing, could we face charges for having and un registerd hand gun? could we mail it back to st louis? what is the most efficent legal way to transport it back. and yes we do ahve concealed weapon permits/license (i forget what its called) but its not registered to us so please help! thanks

p.s. sorry for bad grammer/spelling, i typed this as fast as possible in antacipating a better answers befor i leave tomarrow.
just so you guys know chicago is very strick on gun laws. around here i drive around with rifle and handguns in a case with lots of ammo. my friend got fined for driving with a handgun and no ammo, but that was because he forgot to lock it in his trunk. but still, it’s stricter
also all you guys are saying something about not having to register the guns, all of my guns had to be registered, but that might be because i am under 21. idk

i am 21 and i live in houston texas. i just finished a handgun training program in which i will receive a concealed semiautomatic handgun license or permit. i dont know much about gun laws and dont know the difference between license and permit in terms of guns, i do know the difference for driving. i need for someone to explain to me the difference between handgun license and handgun permit. i also need to know the difference between (license or permit) of concealed handgun to (license or permit) to carry a concealed handgun. i thought that concealed license or permit and carry a concealed handgun license or permit is the same thing?i also need to know if i can carry my loaded pistol around tucked into my pants along with my gun I.D.? if i get pulled over by a cop for a traffic violation and the loaded gun is tucked in my pants and i have the gun I.D.,where does the loaded gun have to be in the vehicle at all times?also, can i carry my pistol to places like movie theaters or the mall?
