Also id like to appologize, my question had nothing to do with WWII weapons like the main line suggested. Thought it would be nice to own one.

I sold a WWII dated P-38 handgun to someone. Now I need to ship it to them. He is going to get his FFL to send me some paperwork and/or license to me so I can ship it through the USPS to the FFL. Is this possible? Do they have some form or something to let me ship a handgun USPS?

I know I could ship it next day through FedEx or UPS, but at – that is a bit extreme and would like to ship through the USPS priority for -.
I have a C&R license but that only allows me to recieve C&R firearms. I know where several FFLs are in my area but after fees just me sending it though UPS/FedEx to his FFL is cheaper. I was just hoping that his I would be able to mail to his FFL through the USPS because of some paperwork or something that his FFL can send me. (This is what he seemed to say could happen though I had never heard of it before.)
You need a dealer FFL to ship USPS. But the guy who bought the P-38 said I could (I didn’t think so but wanted to make sure).

Shipping piece by piece would work until you got to the frame or is it the slide, or both? What ever part of the handgun that is legaly considered the weapon. That you could not mail unles you are a FFL. But triggers, barrels, sears, grips, ejectors, etc. can be sent by anyone to anyone.

So is it possible that his FFL can
The USPS will ship hand guns if you are a 01FFL (dealer), I am only a 03FFL (curio and relics collector). I am trying to find out if the 01FFL has some way to let me, a private citizen (as the 03FFL dosen’t effect shiping, only recieving C&R guns), send them a hand gun through the USPS. I don’t think I can but I want to make sure as saving would be great.

I am an x-police officer and just need a hobby. I have read the ATF website but they don’t really tell you much about what it takes to get one. I don’t have a storefront and would just be doing it out of my home.
I might just forget the ffl and get a C&R
Thanks all for your answers. I requested the paperwork and will fill it out and see what happens. Heck I don’t really care either way.

Ok, I am thinking about getting the Federal Firearms License For Collectors – The Curios and Relics License (C&R FFL)

I know that its for a gun collector so can I buy a new gun like a glock from a wholesale dealer online or is the FFL-3 only to buy guns 50+ years old ?

Thanks.
