I’m thinking of going to university in Rochester at RIT. I’ve been reading up on Rochester and up-state New York and it looks to me to be pretty unsafe. I’ve heard that it’s the murder capital of New York and also that it’s the 30th most dangerous city in the US. Mostly, I intend to stay in or around campus anyway, but I’d still like to know. I’m disabled, so not much that I can do for self defense. I have a concealed firearms license for GA, but New York state gun laws are much more strict.
Hunting, shooting and target practise are some of the most popular pastimes in the USA, but make that you learn all about the rules and regulations regarding firearms and their safe use.

As a college student at RIT, you will probably be spending a lot of your time on campus or in the Henrietta area. If you go into the city, you will probably be in the Park Avenue or East End area, where a lot of the college-oriented restaurants and bars are.
All three of these areas are very safe, and you shouldn’t be concerned with needing a concealed weapon.
There isn’t really a reason for college students to go into the sketchy parts of town, and so you shouldn’t be in any dangerous situations.
I’m not sure what part of GA you are from, but Rochester is much safer than Atlanta.
I hope it is. Because I’m interested in going to the University of Rochester as well >:/
dude, you’ll be fine…i went to university at buffalo which is about 50 miles from rochester and WAY more "dangerous" –9 years later i’m still alive and doing fine
..btw, leave the gun in georgia..as long as you dont go into the ghetto looking for trouble you’ll be absolutely fine
