I am a resident of Indiana and am planning on buying a 44 magnum hunting rifle. Any suggestions? Does anyone know of a company that makes one in a bolt action?

the first answer is correct the other answers are misinformed people whom no nothing about Indiana
Ruger makes the Model 77/44 in 44Mag. Uses a 4 round rotary mag, weighs 6 pounds, 18-1/2 inch barrel, 90 degree bolt lift, integrated scope mounts and a three position safety that allows the loading and unloading of the weapon with the safety on. Sounds like a nice short range/brush gun and the MSRP is $754.00
Historically, the 44 was a lever gun round.
The only halfway good reason to buy a 44 Mag rifle is perhaps because one already owns a 44 Mag handgun, and wishes to only have to stock one kind of ammo. But that falls apart, because the use of JHP ammo in the rifle will result in explosive expansion and failure to penetrate deer-sized game, and use of JSP ammo in the pistol will result in lack of expansion on the target. The exception to this is for a reloader, who loads whichever type of bullet as easily as the other for the specific gun it will be used in. Further, the recoil of a 44 Magnum rifle is upsetting to most people who were expecting light recoil from a handgun round. If one is willing to put up with that level of moderately heavy recoil, better range and as good of performance can be had from perhaps a 7mm-08. Regards, Larry.
i thought you had to hunt with shotguns in indiana.
