The only reason to get a "permit" is to carry any handgun, concealed, legally or have it in your posession legally like in your car or in some cases at the gun range where you shoot.
Some states, like Indiana, require a "range permit" just to have a handgun in your hand at the range. It’s cheaper than the concealed carry permit but does not allow you to carry your handgun concealed around town.
If you are planning to work armed security I’d spend a significant amount of time getting to know your handgun and shooting it and cleaning it and take some NRA approved classes. Pump that brain full of knowledge and use your weapon wisely and responsibly.
Good Luck!
