Hey-
How do i go about getting a pistol/firearm permit in North Carolina? I wanna be able to go to a shooting range and practice my aim and trapshoot for a hobby.
Not looking to shoot animals- just looking to have a permit to shoot like clay disks, or go to a shooting range- NOT TO CAUSE HARM!

As far as I know you don’t need a permit for a long gun like a shotgun which is what you use to shoot clay targets. As long as it’s in a case, maybe even a locked case and in the back or trunk if you drive a car then you should be alright. As to purchase one you don’t need a permit for long guns which is any gun 18 1/2 inches or longer, only for a handgun. Take a look at your local gun laws and even call the police dept. and ask them they’ll let you know what to do. To get a pistol permit you go to the police dept fill out some paper work go buy your gun within the time limit they give you and go back to register it, a pain in the rear if you ask me, thats why I have a ccw permit so I bypass all that. Not all states have that law though. Good luck

AS FAR AS I KNOW ITS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME IN EVERY STATE. YOU DO THE BACKGROUND AND SUCH TO GET YOUR FIREARM AND YOU HAVE IT.
BUT IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A PERMIT TO CARRY IT ON YOU THEN YOU TAKE IT DOWN TO THE POLICE DEPT. THAT WAY YOU CAN CARRY IT ON YOU. BUT YOU DON’T NEED A PERMIT TO CARRY IT TO GO THE RANGE YOU JUST CAN’T HAVE IT LOADED AND IN THE CAR WITH YOU. IT HAS TO BE KEPT IN THE TRUNK WITH OUT THE CLIP IN IT AND THE CLIP CAN NOT BE LOADED AND IT HAS TO HAVE A BARREL LOCK ON IT. THAT IS THE WAY TO TRANSPORT IT.
ITS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME FOR CA AND WA, AND I BELIEVE PA. SO HOPE THAT HELPS, IF NOT SORRY.
Sounds real nice but is that what you really want to do, or the next time something happens like the V-Tech tradegy, will you be there to protect those people or at least stop him midway in his tracks. Or are you going to go into the woods and torture little animals just for fun, or cause great harm to you and so many other people. What ever you do with this new found weapon you are looking for are you going to think before you use it, will you be able to be held accountable for your actions with it. I hope you have thought this thru
You don’t need a permit to go to target shoot or clay shoot with a shotgun. You just have to be as old as they require for the place you go to target shoot. I suggest you get an adult’s help with this endeavor.
you don’t need a permit for a gun
In north carolina to purchase a handgun you have to get a permit at the local sheriffs department! Cost around $5.00
