I want to own a rifle, possibly a pistol, but where do I go to apply for a license? I believe in the second amendment in our Constitution, and I’ve been an admirer of weapons and warfare for a long time (history freak), but I don’t know what the process is for obtaining a firearm.

You don’t need a license to own a rifle. We bought two last week. You do need to have a current driver’s license, with your current address, etc. with you as you make the purchase. Different laws may apply to "assault weapons" and handguns, but I’m not exactly sure if they vary from state to state or whatever.
Buy ‘em while you still can!
There are people you can talk to, I’ve heard good things about the Samaritans.
You need to tell us what state your in for us to answer this.
In Washington? Forget getting a handgun. In Pennsylvania? Go down to the cornerstore, point at one, pay for it, and take it home lol.
