Some LE agencies don’t require CCW.
However ankle holsters are more of an "on duty" type of thing where you rely heavily on a backup weapon. I personally find ankle holsters annoying, inside the vest carry options are great, as well as shirts with concealment pockets(5.11)
I have a Glock 26 and because i’m a decent sized guy have no problem wearing a like coat, jacket, whatever concealment is never too much of an issue. However i’d trade some concealment for ease of draw. There are some handy "inside the belt" clips that attach to the slide of some smaller made to carry pistols. I’ve talked with some buddies who like these a lot. If you want a wide variety of carry options look for websites that are not so generic like cabelas or dick’s etc. look for LE, many innovations come from people who rely on concealment as a way of life. try galls.com and also http://www.desantisholster.com/storefrontB2CWEB/
I’m a real big fan of leather.
BTW you have something in mide of carrying?
i carry a beretta 84f in a blackhawk holster. this is easy to conceal and is much quicker on the draw than any ankle holster.
I carry a 9mm S&W. My holster is a hip holster. I don’t remember what brand, not important. As long as it fits right, that’s all I care.
ankle holsters are not very practical for concealed carry, unless it is for a secondary pistol. I carry a Taurus 24/7 45 cal, but that may be a bit bigger than what you are looking for. I found that a holster inside the waistband of my jeans is the most comfortable and practicle. Whatever you decide on make sure the fit is the right one for you. Might take a few days to get used to it, but after a bit it is no different than a wallet, or something you carry everyday.
Right now, as I sit here typing, a Super Redhawk .44 mag, 7.5 inch barrel, stuffed in a vertical shoulder holster under an untucked flannel shirt. In summer I’ll probably switch to an SP101 .357 IWB, or when in shorts a thigh holster. I really like the thigh holster, it gives very concealable firepower while in a T-shirt and shorts, the strap to my belt keeps it from slipping down, and since most people don’t stare at my thigh area, so to speak, nobody will ever notice the .357.
Glock 19 with factory hip holster. I have a Colt PocketLite 32 with custom made leather ankle holster. Both are comfortable.
a Walther PPK would be a good choice, not too big and it has a 15 round mag. only down side is its bullet size. depending on what model u get u can chose from .32 ACP, 380 ACP, .22 LR, 25 ACP, or the 9x18mm ultra (PP-Super)
As far as holsters go look into http://www.cabelas.com, blackhawk.com, or safariland.com
Springfield XD 40 with factory paddle holster – I too am a fairly big boy and have no trouble with concealment.
I carry my H-K USP .45 Tactical almost all the time. Sometimes, when I feel the need, I carry my PPK/S in a modified ankle rig on my left leg prosthesis (BKA amputation) as a back-up.
My H-K is carried in either a modified ‘butt pack’ carried in cross draw position, or in a modified ‘messenger pouch’ that rides in about the same position. Especially with all the transient winter population carrying similar ‘baggage’, my pistol rigs hardly ever go noticed anywhere.
I have three methods of carrying my snub nose
Ankle holster works for me because I am typically driving and the gun is inches from my hand when seated in the truck
When I get out of the truck I slip it into my right front pocket in a pocket holster
Off time I carry in a Bianchi Executive shoulder holster under my unbuttoned tactical Hawaiian shirt
I like 4 O Clock IWB but in the truck it can get uncomfortabe
