This is a very debatable topic. Whether or not you have a gun carrying license most college campuses ban all firearms, so you would be convicted of a felony if found out to be carrying a gun on campus.
Do you think that students with the proper license and qualifications should be allowed to carry their guns on campus? Mind you these are adults and not elementary and high school students. Also, for most states to be able to carry a concealed weapon the age is 21. So no 18-20 year olds would be allowed to carry.
Hunting, shooting and target practise are some of the most popular pastimes in the USA, but make that you learn all about the rules and regulations regarding firearms and their safe use.

Yes, if they have a permit why not? The guy who shot up Virginia tech did not have a right to carry a gun on campus or anywhere for that matter and it did not stop him. He however could of been stopped if there was another student that was armed near by. And you do bring up a good point that only upper class people would be allowed to carry. I dont see what the big deal is, the fact is it would keep everyone safer.
I think everybody should be allowed to carry a gun if they want to. Guns dont kill its the people behind the gun that kills. I want to level the playing field a little. Why should only the criminals and thug be allowed to carry??
I support it mainly because criminals always have access to guns; so the general population should have the ability to protect themselves if they wish.
No, I disagree with this. I don’t think the answer to gun violence is adding more guns. There are other methods of protecting students. Plus even though these students may have the proper licenses and went through their training they still were not trained to shoot in a small room with 100 other people. It just seems like a way for more people to be injured, especially since I don’t think it would prevent any such tragic events since most of the shooters on campuses end up committing suicide at the end of their rampages anyway.
You know, I’m a very avid proponent of the 2nd Amendment. I don’t believe in registration or licensing handguns. I hate those knee-jerk ‘fixes’ to ban all guns whenever a shooting occurs, and I also hate the similar knee-jerk reactions that everybody get armed for Dodge City when a shooting occurs.
But as long as we do have licenses, I see no difference between carrying those licensed weapons on campus any more than in a supermarket. On the other hand, as a gun nut, I STILL cringe over unqualified, barely trained incompetents carrying firearms on campus only in response to a possible shoot-em-up.
Absolutely not! College students are usually volatile enough as it is, since many of them are still finishing puberty and under a great deal of stress. I don’t think the mail problem here would be violence against others as much as it would raise the incidence of suicide.
If you really want to be able to carry weapons, why not join the military?
I would support the concealed carry by the staff, but not the students. Most college students don’t have the level of maturity needed in an active shooter scenario to assess the situation. Not to mention if one student sees another with their gun at the ready and mistake him for the shooter. Then you have a dead hero.
There are lots of schools that the campus police force do not carry firearms, and they should be armed. How can they protect the students if all they can do is hide from a shooter themselves?
The simple answer to your question is …No.
How much training does it take to get a permit In your state? In Ga. there is no training required for a concealed carry permit, just a background check. I would be really nervous on a campus with completely untrained teens and twenty somethings carrying concealed. How many accidental shootings do you think you’ll get at keggers or from general horseplay? Young soldiers have accidental discharges playing quickdraw pretty regularly, and they have "adult supervision". Suppose 2 or three people in the back of that Virginia Tech classroom had been armed. How many friendly fire casualties would there have been before the shooter went down? Would you want to explain to the parents of your classmate that you were shooting at the deranged killer, and hit their son/daughter by accident?
Specify the training and qualifications, and I’ll consider it, but without training you are asking for more trouble than we have now.
Absolutely. If its legal in the rest of the state, then it should be legal everywhere in the state, including college campuses.
