no you do not need any kind of license for a bb gun.
Bound’s hubby here:
We live in New Jersey. Under New Jersey law, in order to purchase a BB gun/air rifle you must be at least 18 and have a New Jersey Firearms ID Card. If you wish to purchase a BB pistol/air pistol, you must be at least 21 and have a New Jersey Pistol Purchase Permit.
New Jersey is one of the few states that considers a BB gun to be a true firearm. In addition, BB guns that hold more than 15 pellets, have been considered to be assault weapons and subjected to assault weapon bans. (This fine state has also attempted to ban the Super Soaker as an assault rifle because of it’s magazine/tank capacity!)
See the link below for information on gun laws and obtaining a Firearms ID Card here in New Jersey.
Good luck and be safe.
According to N.J.S.2C:39-1 from the 2008 Jew Jersy State Assembly, BB Guns are no longer considered firearms, however, when I went to Dicks in Mt. Laurel last week, they told me I have to have a Firearms ID Card.
